Shaw DC Development Update
City Market at O
City Market at O is the largest, most significant development taking place in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington DC. If you’ve been in Shaw lately, you’ve seen the craters, the cranes, and the shell of the old O Street Makret at 7th and O where the new City Market at O project is underway. Roadside Development and Clark Construction are working towards their 2013 delivery goal for the new 71,000 SF Giant supermarket. That will be followed by the 189 room Cambria Suites Hotel in 2014.
Here’s the breakdown:
86,233 SF of retail, 396 market rate rental units, 84-unit affordable senior residential rental units and 130 condominiums (fall 2014). CityMarket’s 516 space parking garage and truck court will offer car and bike sharing, electric car charging stations and bike storage for residents and visitors. The Giant will have an entrance and exit in the old market tower and 7th and O Streets. The project is costing an estimated $300M.
The snapshot above is a time-lapse photo from the Clark Construction website on the night of July 15th. There’s also a cool time-lapse YouTube video showing the demolition and construction process. Above right are daytime shots of the cranes and construction site taken July 15th.
Mandalay Restaurant
Construction on the Mandalay restaurant at 9th and P is also progressing after stalling in 2010/11. The 6,000 SF building by Inle Development, replaces a former used car lot. Residential units occupied by restaurant family/staff will be located above the restaurant. The construction and restaurant build out were reportedly financed by a $2.1M US SBA loan.
